as far as I remeber you have to use -t /dev/tty8 (or whatever you like).
Only tried it once some time ago. You need to set the controlling terminal.
Then start VDR and Switch to tty8 with CTRL-ALT-F8 after that it should
work.

Otherwise take a look at www.vdrportal.de I am pretty sure they have got a
solution there somewhere.
