Ok, so let's do some tests:

Where is your mplayer? Do you have different versions installed?

Please try the following:

Kill all VDR processes, then run
/path/to/your/mplayer -vo mpegpes -ao mpegpes /some/test/file.mpg

Does it work?
If not, you either didn't stop VDR properly or your mplayer isn't
compiled with the right DVB support.
If yes, try the following:

Kill all VDR processes, then run
mplayer.sh /some/test/file.mpg SLAVE

Does it work?
If no, please set DEBUG=true in mplayer.sh.conf, repeat the step above
and post the contents of your /var/log/messages (or similar).
