I can help too.

I've been thinking about starting that project, but so far haven't got the
time.

I wrote a patch against VDR-1.1.21 which includes the subtitle stream into
recordings. If I remember correctly there was a problem with putting
multiple languages into the PES stream (which VDR uses for recordings). But
the patch should work with a single language without breaking anything
anywhere (fingers crossed).

I could make another patch against VDR-1.1.30 if anyone is interested.
