I think the *real* answer to this FAQ is:
Use only the newest versions of all components.
Here it is the old vdr version 1.1.26 together with the newest
mplayer-plugin version 0.7.14.

Just update vdr to 1.1.32 or use an older verion of the mplayer-plugin
that was designed to work with vdr-1.1.26.
