[vdr] Is there a standard naming scheme for TV channels?

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to interchange data between TV-applications by
channel-name (e.g. ARD, RTL, BBC-1, ...).

Is anyone aware of a standardized naming scheme for naming channels? Is
there a public authority at which tv-stations register their
name/abbreviation? Or maybe a public list of the satelite provider (e.g.
Astra)?
