I use an epia for diskless vdr. I have tried an usb stick aswell, but
I like net booting better. When I upgrade I don't have to move the
stick around. I just rebuild the image and reboot. I don't have a
cookbook and there are probably better and easier ways than mine.
I used some stuff from the "linux terminal project" to build the
image. I use etherboot. It should be possible to put the etherboot
stuff directly in your BIOS. I tried but it didn't work for me.
I run everything on ramdisk except /video (nfs).
If your box is using the via rhine network controller, make sure
your're using a recent kernel driver (>2.4.20 kernel.org).
I'm very happy with my setup.
If you decide to do something similar, feel free to contact me offlist
if you have any questions.
