[vdr] install autopid - newbe question regarding diff files

hello,

anyone can help me installing autopid diff file?
i tried to apply the following in VDR folder:

linux:/usr/local/src/vdr-1.1.32 # patch vdr.c vdr-1.1.32-autopid-1.diff[1]

output:

patching file vdr.c
Hunk #1 FAILED at 33.
1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file vdr.c.rej
The next patch would create the file COPYING,
which already exists!  Assume -R? [n] n
Apply anyway? [n] n
Skipping patch.

seems i do not know ANYTHING about patching vdr. but i didnt find hints 
neither on the mailinglist nor on any other sites.
