Wrong. MPlayer never reencodes Mpeg data! And I can Play any DVD with
Mplayer with a CPU-Load of 1-3%. 
The MPlayer Team decided to use a special patched version of libdvdnav
a while ago. Same as Xine uses a special version of libdvdnav.
The problem with mplayer is that you only can simply watch a DVD. No 
switching of audio channels no menues ... And Xine can do that things, but 
no output to DVB. :-(
