i got no UPT-Errors but the restarts you described. as i never get UPT-errors with 
hw_sections=1.
for me hw_sections=1 exchanges the UPT-Error to restarts. because i get the restarts with 
your patch, i thought nothing has changed.... i am going to check if your patch works with 
hw_sections=0 - that would better for the osd-colour bugs..
