Cool stuff indeed. I have one suggestion, alltough I don't have a Ph.D. in 
astro physics ;-) :
For monitoring the entire VDR, it would be nice to display the status of all 
cards used by VDR. Something like this:

Card 1: Live view TA 3
....

Card 2: Recording ARD
...

Card 3: Inactive, tuned to ZDF
...
