You defitely want to look here:

and you definitely want to subscribe to the JP1 group on yahoo (where you will find the application to program a JP1 remote, and a master spreadsheet that you can use to generate new codes for new remotes)

BTW, I have a Topline 8 and currently use it to control:
- VDR
- A Sony VCR
- A Sony TV
- An Onkyo ds 575
- A Humax 5400 receiver
- A Standard DVD player
