Hi Christoph, hi Manu,
I tested the latest cx878 backend tree in connection with latest mercurial tree.
Compilation errors:
WARNING: "i2c_add_adapter" [/usr/src/packages/v4ldvb301206/v4l/cx878_core.ko] undefined!
WARNING: "i2c_del_adapter" [/usr/src/packages/v4ldvb301206/v4l/cx878_core.ko] undefined!
WARNING: "i2c_transfer" [/usr/src/packages/v4ldvb301206/v4l/cx878_budget.ko] undefined!
WARNING: "request_firmware" [/usr/src/packages/v4ldvb301206/v4l/cx878_budget.ko] undefined!
WARNING: "i2c_transfer" [/usr/src/packages/v4ldvb301206/v4l/cx24110.ko] undefined!
The modules touched by those errors are cx878_budget.c and cx878_i2c.c. They need a little bit more work.
Dmesg messages:
cx878_pci_init: found a Pinnacle PCTV SAT device
PCI: Enabling device 0000:02:0b.0 (0004 -> 0006)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:0b.0[A] -> GSI 23 (level, low) -> IRQ 21
    CX878 Rev 17 [11bd:001c], irq: 21, latency: 32
    memory: 0xf3000000, mmio: 0xe081c000
DVB: registering new adapter (CX878 dvb adapter).
DVB: registering frontend 0 (Conexant CX24110 DVB-S)...
cx878_risc_program (0): risc len lines 32, bytes per line 2048

All needed modules are loaded correctly without making noise in dmesg - GOOD!
I can hear the relais click of the PCTVSAT, but I do not receive any picture or sound.
I assume that the i2c errors mentioned above are responsible for this.
Hope I could help a bit!
Happy New Year to everybody!

P. S.: Have a look at my config as outline attachment please.
The following in Kconfig is a little bit misleading:
depends on DVB_CORE && PCI && I2C && VIDEO_BT848.
If I remember quite right Manu said the cx878 concept would be a bttv-free one.
In so far I do not understand in how far VIDEO_BT848 is still mentioned as a dependency.
Can you please make that clear to avoid misunderstandings, Christoph?
If you need additional infos please tell me which.
In comparison to the last version this one has become much better.
Good work, Christoph!
