As Data sources for video and TV VDR can use:
- DVB cards, either DVB-T, DVB-C or DVB-S, each of them either as budget card without MPEG-Decoder or Fullfeatured DVB card with MPEG-Decoder.
- analogue TV cards with MPEG encoder like Hauppauge PVR 250 oder PVR 350, either PCI(preferred) or USB
- analogue TV cards without MPEG encoder with Booktree BT848/878
- the data stream of another VDR which works as a server
