Digital TV or Digital Video Broadcasting, is a set of standards for the transmission of digital video and audio.
DVB consists of a data packets, which carries a MPEG2 coded video/audio and EPG combined with other payload encapsulated in MPEG2 Transport Streams. Depending on the transmission path there a different kinds of Digital TV, which are using different Modulation Schemes, frequencies, transmission parameters and are optimized for different transmission networks and target devices.
DVB-S (Digital Video Broadcasting over Satellite)
DVB-C (Digital Video Broadcasting over Cable Networks)
DVB-T (Terrestrial Digital Video Broadcasting)
DVB-H (a new standard for mobile devices, e.g. mobile phones. Sometimes called DVB-N like Nokia ;) - )
ATSC (The U.S. version of digital TV)
