A elementary Stream can contain Audio Data, Video Data, Control Signals or arbitrary digital Data.

For transmission over networks or Storage on DVDs Elementary Streams are usually packetized and multiplexed into MPEG2 Transport Streams or MPEG2 Program Streams.
