Device Database

Hi Jim, I've added my comments about the database idea on my talk page. I agree that the data needs to be consolidated and concentrated. I just don't think that an external database and another application will be a good solution in the long term. The work on modeling that data however is very important no matter where we store the data in the end. --Hlangos 21:56, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jim, I've taken a look at your data model again. If you want to keep that level of detail regarding the support of features you'll have a 4 or 5 supported values for each feature. That's a lot of data to maintain. So for a plain dvb-t usb device with a remote you'd already have to maintain 10 data points. I don't know if you get the average user or developer to care enough about "his" device to do that. Don't get me wrong. It would be great to have that level of detail but I think most people are to lazy to do that. Including me :-) --Hlangos 13:53, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jim, If I go to Howl's user page I see the "E-mail this user" link. On your page I don't see it but I've seen you asking around for that feature. I guess You have to

• login,
• go to "my preferences" (top right),
• go to "user profile" tab (you should be there by default)
• make sure that you have a verified email address, and
• make sure that you have the box checked next to "Enable e-mail from other users".

If you've done all that and still don't see those links I suggest that you get in touch with Johannes. He's the local mediawiki guru.
