A hardware device or software algorithm that multiplexes different MPEG2 Elementary Streams into a MPEG2 Transport Stream for transportation over Networks or a MPEG2 Program Stream for Storage on harddisks or DVDs.
The MPEG2 Demultiplexer reverses this process on the receiver side; from the TS, the different MPEG2 Elementary Streams (Audio, Video, Subtitle, Teletext etc.) are separated out, and thereby made ready to be processed by the different decoders.
