This page is dedicated to the proposed fourth version of the Linux DVB API.

Note: This project is unmaintained. None of the developers is actively working on it any more. This page is here for historical reasons only. The Linux DVB API development continues, but not with version 4. Don't waste your time looking at this.

Background information

In order to make it easier for people to understand what all this is about we suggest that the following documents be read :

  • Linux DVB API v4 documentation snapshot: The current API documentation can only be generated from the source code. From time to time, we will release snapshots of the documentation in http://linuxtv.org/downloads/legacy/linux-dvb-api-v4/. ... the most recent version, dated 2005/04/15, is available here.
Note: The code is hosted in the "dvb-kernel-v4" tree of the old public CVS -- LinuxTV no longer uses CVS, having switched to Mercurial instead. However, the old CVS repository is still available; see here.

Development Status

When development left off:

  • the dvb-core was ready and working, with the basic features implemented and tested (basic frontend, demux, audio and video decoder handling, section filtering, recording filters and memory playback).
  • The reference TTPCI PCI DVB driver was currently non-functional.

Contact

Please ask any technical questions on the official linux-dvb mailinglist. If you're unsure and want to speak to one of the project members personally, you can mail to Michael Hunold <hunold@linuxtv.org>.

CE Linux Conference

The Consumer Electronics Linux Forum (CELF) is a California, U.S.A. baesd non-profit corporation that is focused on the advancement of Linux as an open source platform for consumer electronics (CE) devices.

The annual technical conference took place in San Jose, California, USA. More informations about the event can be found on the offical CE Linux Technical Conference page: http://tree.celinuxforum.org/pubwiki/moin.cgi/TechnicalConference

On January 26th, 2005, Michael Hunold gave a presentation about the current status of the Linux DVB API v4, which is clearly targeted towards embedded platforms running DVB and Digital TV. Thanks to Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) for making both the trip and the presentation possible!

A revised version of the presentation slides can be found in the download section under the linux-dvb-api-v4/ directory within a PDF file. You can download it directly using this link: http://linuxtv.org/downloads/linux-dvb-api-v4/celf_2005_01_linux_dvb_v4.pdf
