A device (Hard- and/or Software) that multiplexes different MPEG2 Elementary Streams into a MPEG2 Transport Stream for transportation over Networks or a MPEG2 Program Stream for Storage on harddisks or DVDs.

The MPEG2 Demultiplexer reverses this process on the receiver side and seperates the different MPEG2 Elementary Streams for the different (Audio, Video, Subtitle, Teletext etc.) MPEG2 Decoders.
