Maybe I have the wrong term but from my understanding "squeeze back" 
is where the video is squeezed upwards to provide a blank void around
the
outside
	
	vvvvvv	bbvvvv
	vvvvvv	bbvvvv
	vvvvvv	bbvvvv
	vvvvvv	bbbbbb

so the if the "v"'s represent the video and the "b"'s represent blank
space
after you have performed squeeze back the image would be contained in a
smaller area.
thus allowing for bitmaps or whatever to be displayed in the black area.
