Thanks for thinking of me.  I did try the orig patch on my old machine, and
it made no difference.  I haven't in fact tried it on my new machine to be
fair, I have only tried the pre3 driver (it has so far behaved identically
to the old machine so I hadn't bothered to go further)

I will give it a bash, but I strongly suggest that *my* card is foobar'd so
perhaps someone else who is having these problems would like to come up to
the plate and retest with these patches?
