I think it's the 2.4 kernel that lets you emerge libdvb. But without it I'm 
not sure how I'll get anything once I've sorted out the /dev entries...

Speaking of which, is there something you're meant to configure in hotplug or 
devfsd (other than the gentoo defaults)?
