It gives on average:

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffer-cache reads:   128 MB in  0.83 seconds =154.22 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:  64 MB in  2.49 seconds = 25.70 MB/sec

Is that enough? (it's an IBM DTLA 7200 RPM)

The driver has also changed, I'm using one of the latest from CVS.
