no, at least you are explaining what he _did_ not want to hear i guess. extending raid stripping on the fly (i.e. only _one_ reboot to insert the drive physicaly) is AFAIK not possible. and most how-toos are about raid 1 or 5, JBOD is little more difficult for newbees than parted + mkfs.ext3 +Yes.
