I'm using VDR for >3 Years now, and i never lost a recording. And i have

This is because since "day one" i prefer "permanent(tm)" recordings.
First on CD-R and since 2 years on (Data-)DVD-R. (Currently > 500
DVD-Rs)

Another advantage of this is that it is cheaper and only a bit of "DJ".
The current per GB price is 0.50 EUR(excluding burner). Whereas a HDD
costs (in "ideal" case, excluding everything else) about 0.80-1.10 EUR
per GB.

Real Programmers consider "what you see is what you get" to be just as
bad a concept in Text Editors as it is in women. No, the Real Programmer
wants a "you asked for it, you got it" text editor -- complicated,
cryptic, powerful, unforgiving, dangerous.
