I'll agree completely about about integrating subtitling into VDR core,
but the current solution is working quite nicely and you can live with
it... I've maintained combined DVB+teletext subtitles patch for a while
and it can be found on my page:

I haven't had any problems with it or atleast I haven't noticed any of
them, but that's the same thing :)

PS. You can find a few more UNOFFICIAL patches that might interest finnish
users on my page: skip nextline fix for osdteletext, bloated secondary
language / color / linespacing settings for teletext subtitles, preferred
language for extended descriptor ...
