[vdr] A full remote system

Hi, 
I need your advices to my plan:

I will buy a Laptop and want to watch TV on it.

On my desktop PC a Full Featured Card works fine.

What is to do to run vdr (or at least an other nice to control program) on the laptop?

Which plugin(s) may I use?

Softdevice?
Streamdev?
Xine?

mplayer and Streamdev is too complicated when changing the channel....

Who has experience with such an intention?
