[vdr] SV: Re: SV: Re: Needed: Step by step guide for AC3 over Soundcard

I'm using the onboard soundcard (AC97, 6 channel) of my ABIT VA-10.
I have made some tests and i can play a regular sound file through the
spdif (aplay -D spdif) but when I try to play an ac3-file I get:

linux:~ # ac3play SURROUNDTEST_DD_640.wav
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:976:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D2p failed:
No such device
open: No such device
error openning digital output

I'm using ALSA 0.9.0 (standard on SuSe 8.2). I have'nt setup anything
with amixer or a mute-script.

Also, when I'm watching channels with analog sound, I get sound through
the spdif but it is totally out of sync. /var/log/messages gives me:

Oct 16 11:24:54 linux kernel: ALSA pcm_lib.c:1938: BUG? (noise_dist <=
(snd_pcm_sframes_t)runtime->silence_threshold) (called from c20ba0b6)

Any message about that in /var/log/messages ?
Is the bitstreamout plugin enabled in its setup?
Which soundcard?
Are you able to replay ac3 files, e.g. with ac3play.
Do you have setup your soundcard with amixer and/or
a mute script (see mute/ directory).
If you're able to read german you may have a look
at the last URL in my signature.
