arnd: I occasionally see "drivers/media/dvb-frontends/stv0367.c:1216:12: error: stack frame size (3544) exceeds limit (2048) in 'stv0367ter_set_frontend' [-Werror,-Wframe-larger-than]" with clang and would like to fix it. Marking stv0367_writereg() as "noinline_for_stack" would be a workaround, but it's probably not the best solution
I think converting it to use i2c_master_send() instead of i2c_transfer(), and dvb_module_probe() instead of dvb_attach(stv0367ddb_attach,...) should do the trick nicely
Can anyone help me out with that patch, or should I go with the trivial noinline_for_stack?
pinchartl: arnd: dvb has always been foreign territory for me. it looks old and dusty and scary, but maybe it's maintained ? :-)
hverkuil: arnd: the only one who really knows dvb is mchehab_, and frankly not much is happening there. I would just go with noinline_for_stack, I don't really see any downsides to that.
arnd: ok, thanks pinchartl hverkuil, I'll just send the trivial patch then, might try to clean it up slightly
pinchartl: I sometimes wonder if we shouldn't try to decouple dvb from v4l2 a bit more
it makes solving the lifetime management issues in v4l2 more painful

hverkuil: pinchartl: it's really not possible due to the hybrid tuners (both digital and analog).
pinchartl: maybe we should just drop dvb then :-D
hverkuil: I couldn't even drop the over-20-year-old saa7146 PCI driver, used by DVB cards, it turned out they were still in use in Germany. :-)
