[linux-dvb] Re: AW: VDR 0.80pre8, current CVS OSD problems

Hi,

here are another ideas which probably solve the conflict:
As I understood the problem with memory appears during recording and
only during recording. The OSD is used only during normal viewing and
playback.

So I see two possible solutions:
1. Systems using only one card
During recording the OSD-memory can be released by the firmware and used
for video/audio buffers. In viewing/playback mode the memory is used for
OSD.

2. Systems using multiple cards
I assume that most people with multiple cards have VDR configured so
that the primary card is never used for recordings. I at least have done
it this way because sometimes with multiple concurrent recordings it
happend that a recording was started at the primary card and VDR was
blocked for playback even one of the secondary cards was free in the
meantime. A secondary card which is used only for recording doesn't need
any OSD. So what about a option to specifiy for each card whether the
memory is used for OSD or video/audio buffers?

Both options may even be combined automagically by allowing to
specifying a memory use option (OSD on/off) always when a recording is
started.

Ralph, is it possible to turn OSD on/off dynamically?

Emil
