Might have been an error in the incoming data that fooled VDR into believing
that it was looking at MPEG1 data. Shouldn't be a problem if it doesn't happen too
often.

Neither do I.
I haven't had any of these problems here (except for an occasional "read incomplete section"),
especially not the "delayed timer" problem.
If you try the same timer again, is the problem reproducable?
Can you try this with kernel 2.4.0? That's the one I am using - without such problems.
