[linux-dvb] Re: Newbie questions
I think I have tzap working, but I can't run xawtv. I get messages like
the following:
can't open /dev/v4l/video0: No such file or directory
I have no /dev/v4l. I wondered whether I was supposed to use the video
devices under /dev/ost instead, but "xawtv -c /dev/ost/video0" didn't
work either. Assuming I need the v4l devices, I tried MAKEDEV v4l (this
is Mandrake 9.0, which uses devfs and their own modified version of
MAKEDEV). This gave the following error
MAKEDEV: error making /dev/dcxx0: Operation not permitted
after which it exited, having created a /dev/dcxx0- device, but none of
the other devices. I assume I need to do something to get devfs to setup
the v4l device files, but I haven't got a clue how.
This is all on a recently compiled kernel (2.4.20-2mdk with recent
supermount patch and mod_dvb replaced with 20021229 dvb modules). v4l
(-2 with -1 compatibility) is compiled into the kernel. I've run "make
insmod" to setup the ost devices.
Once again, I feel I am missing something obvious, but I can't find any
HOWTO or man page to guide me through this. What am I doing wrong?
Cheers,
Bruno Prior
