This is wrong. You are mixing two commands: checkout and update

Checkout should be:
`cvs -q -z3 -d :pserver:anonymous@linuxtv.org:/cvs/linuxtv co dvb-kernel`

and update should be:
`cvs -q -z3 up -dPA`
