I'm using a VGA monitor, and a TV on TV-out of the card.
Strangely enough, I had to use:
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV,CRT"
to get this to work, not (what I had expected):
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT,TV".
The switching to textmode worked here, but you you could only could see
some color artifacts, no text. Removing the vga=791 from lilo.conf
solved the problem: it's now using the fbdev with 80x30, and switching
back to that from X11-nvidia mode works fine.
