please report to the mplayer maintainers.
I let tzap -r run in background. And it crashed the machine after a while. I
would have been surprised if mplayer was able to crash the entire system at
all.
Let it run without mplayer and pipe the stream to a file to be sure:
$ cat /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 > /dev/null
$ cat /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 > /tmp/recording.ts
If this still crashes your box then we have a problem in the dvb driver,
otherwise not. again: I doubt this; direct access to graphics hardware
under linux is still prone to crashes and system instabilities,
especially mplayer and xine have never been known for robustness.
Try another video codec, output option or mplayer version, maybe the one
you are using is overflowing some buffers in case of garbled Transport
Stream input (like it may happen under non-optimal but very common DVB-T
receiption conditions), if these buffers are mmap'd and/or hardware
related this may easily hang your box.
