[vdr] howto convert vdr2divx

I want to convert  my vdr-recordings to an format, for that is an cd-r
(or rw) big enough. I think, that the divx-format is usable for this
work. But i can't find any howto-document with instructions.
where can i find such howto or who can give me an short howto via mail?
