sometimes i got the same situation, apx. once two weeks.
the driver crashes - with luck i could reboot the machine via vdr but i 
will get no pics anyway. only turning off the machine and switching on 
again solves the situation.

ralph replied once that this could be a temperature problem, but i think 
he wasnt exactly sure about this. imho it could be a problem with the 
cam/ci. do you use a cam ?
