this depends on the player. mplayer canscale the avi while playing. when you
replay the avi over the dvb with the options
-vop lavc,expand=-1:576:-1:-1:1,scale=-1:0,dvbscale -aspect 4:3 -vo
mpegpes -ao mpegpes   a 544x576
avi is displayed correctly, so you could retain quality by ommiting the
scaling at encode time.
