[vdr] dynamic compression?

hi people,

i know, this is perhaps not what most people want, but is there a way to do
dynamic compression in vdr?
sometimes i just want to watch a tv show an commercials are pretty loud or
some movies have a pretty wide dynamic range and if you have to watch at
"room-volume" you run in trouble with a good sound system.

since there is a way to use external ac3 decoder (i have never played with
that), i seems possible to call something for normalization? i know, for
real normalisation, you have to analyze the full stream, but is there a way
to get down those dynamic peaks? the mp3 player part has already such a
function..
