I would prefer another solution:

1. Adding a menu entry: 'Shutdown after recording' while vdr is in recording    mode
2. Automatically shutdown vdr if a recording ends automatically and no key was 
pressed during the recording.

For the second point should be a setup entry, because not everybody wants that !
