Hmm - yesterday I was able to convert a cutted video. Today 
I've recorded a new film and after the cutting process 
mencoder was back again to "Sorry, this file format ..." 
:-(

I will try to cut the cutted video once more, because I've 
deleted the original recording. Maybe this helps ...
