The reason is that the OSD uses a fixed number of lines from the tv picture.
But NTSC has only 480 lines per picture as compared to PAL with 576 lines.

Well, Klaus already suggested the workaround.
Since the OSD is not centered with NTSC replay, a further improvement would
be if it was possible to set the center of the OSD from line 288 to line
240.
