You could get an IRMan (http://www.evation.com/irman/)
I use this with my VDR and it "eats" all remotes i have found in my
house.
And IMHO its better tahn the homebrew reciever since it has an internal
controller that decodes the signals, so your not having any cpu-load
with decoding the signals.
