[vdr] Using VDR with UK digital terrestrial (problems and observations)

Hello all,

I have a few observations on using VDR with UK DTT and would like to
hear how others have got on with it. First, I have to say that I
think VDR is a wonderful piece of software and regarding my points
below, I just want to know if others with a similar setup see the
same results, i.e. I don't mean to be too critical!

I am using a Hauppage PCI Nova-T with a Hollywood+ card for output,
Gentoo Linux, kernel 2.4.20, vdr-1.1.22, vdr-dxr3-0.1.4, motherboard
MSI 6535.

 · The search forward and backward functions don't work as expected
with recordings from certain channels. With these recordings using
the search function results in a mostly frozen picture with, perhaps,
the occasional update. As far as I can see it is the recordings from
channels using QAM-64 that are problematic, i.e. ITV1, ITV2, Channel
4 and Channel 5. It is fine with QAM-16 channels such as all the
BBC channels and Sky News.

 · Some channels share the same 'frequency'. For example, BBC 3 and
4 become the childrens channels during the day. Is it possible to
enter them both into the channels.conf?

 · When starting recording a program for which there is no EPG info
the VDR interface blocks for a few seconds. If you're not looking
at the syslog you might wonder what is happening. It would be nice
for a message to pop-up whilst this is happening.

 · There's some odd stuff going on with widescreen programs, this
may be related to the DXR3 plugin. All standard widescreen programs
are presented letter-boxed inside a 4:3 frame. Sometimes when the
TV is zoomed in (i.e. it's usual mode for letter-boxed films etc)
there is then a 4:3 picture! This is tricky to explain... There
is a 4:3 picture inside the active part of a letter-boxed area
which is itself inside the standard 4:3 frame. Does anyone else
see this?

 · The volume and mute controls are having no effect. Is this
just the current state of the DXR3 plugin?

Regards,
Simeon
