It's not very good idea to shut down the bdflush daemon (you may lose hours
of changes in system files on a system crash).

But for those having many disks, what about an idea of having configuration
files in a place that can be updated (old, small and silent disks can be
bought on quite reasonably price, if you are lucky). The video-files, on the
other hand, could be on another disk that is never touched unless a
recording is happening, or a video is being played.
