[vdr] Re: VDR 1.2.26 records corrupt MPEG streams
Hi folks!
I've to apologize for asking that question before checking the obvious
first... Since the hardware is new, I didn't realize that the IDE
controller on the motherboard is not supported by the kernel and thus
"hdparm -d 1 /dev/hda" does _not_ activate DMA mode!
After updating to the most recent kernel (2.4.21-pre5-ac3) everything works
fine and I can record up to 7 channels without problems (more channels seem
to need more main memory for the buffers).
However, a question still remains. What has happened? I've took a deep look
at the source code of vdr (and did not find any error ;-), but it looked
like every possible loss of data would get logged. Therefore I think the
artifacts result from buffer overflows in the DVB driver. Has anybody ever
tracked this?
Since the DMA-problem hits a lot of new users (as seen in the mailinglist
archives) it would be great if there would be a message in the log.
Ciao,
Tobias
PS: Of course, it's VDR 1.1.26.
