It didn't help in my vdr system. I tried also your first patch 
(http://www.linuxtv.org/mailinglists/vdr/2003/06-2003/msg00704.html) and 
CPU% is still rather high.

How do you point the problematic functions, is gprof suitable for 
finding this kind of CPU hogs?
