Yo, I fell into an old hole,  first I made a mistake and
selected VIA-C3-2 processor, naturally that did not work.
Then I selected the correct processor CYRIX/VIA-C3 BUT
forgot to run 'make clean;make dep' before compiling and
ended up with crap-kernel.

After doing things properly, like..
make clean;make dep;make bzImage;make modules;make modules_install
cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot
lilo
reboot
.. voila..

Well, it still beats Windows, at least I _know_ what went wrong... :)
