Reinhard Nissl is working on a soft-based A/V-backend with OSD. It will
be a plugin for VDR based on xine. That means you will have the same
possibilities on Monitor like with a full-featured card on TV. If you
can connect your GFX with TV you even will have it on TV. And it's
cheaper. You can get a Skystar2 DVB-card (for satelite) for 40,- or 50,-
Euro or a DVB-T low-budget for 100,- Euro while a full-featured DVB-T
with MPEG-decoder will cost you between 190,- and 260,- Euro (and the
software can be debugged - the hardware/firmware not).

He has already posted great screenshots and stated to have the first
stable within the next two weeks.
