If it works with firmware 2003-07-09 and fails with firmware 2003-07-10
and later, chances are good that it's a firmware problem, which has been
introduced at this date.

A firmware developer has to debug this. Maybe it's possible to undo
the 2003-07-09 changes in the current firmware for testing.
